An outsourced technology service provider with the responsibility to monitor, supervise and secure the client’s applications, infrastructure, and security, via ongoing and regular support and active administration on customers’ premises, in the MSP’s data center (private hosting), in a third-party data center, or hybrid configuration.

The scope of services varies widely between MSPs.  Core services typically revolve around the server, storage, network, and endpoints infrastructure.  Additional services covered may include connectivity and bandwidth, cyber-security, regulatory compliance, virtualization, cloud applications, and disaster recovery.

Some MSPs act as facilitators who manage and procure technical staffing services on behalf of the client.
